Legendary singer-songwriter John Hiatt was honored at a special tribute show at the Troubadour in L.A., on Saturday (February 1). The event featured performances by acclaimed artists from multiple genres who have been impacted by Hiatt’s music, such as Los Lobos, Sara Watkins, Lyle Lovett, Sarah Jarosz, Michael McDonald, Shemekia Copeland, Tom Morello, Maggie Rose, Little Feet, and Joe Bonamassa. The tribute show, part of the Americana Music Association’s pre-Grammy celebration, showcased a mix of Hiatt’s classic hits and new renditions of his old favorites, paying homage to one of the most influential figures in American roots music. Hiatt himself concluded the evening with a four song set that finished with a touching duet with Brandy Clark on “Thing Called Love.” The night was a memorable showcase for the enduring importance of Americana music, while also raising money for MusiCares and supporting L.A. wildfire relief efforts.
