On Tuesday (April 8), Jelly Roll was honored with the Global Literacy Award at the 2025 World Literacy Summit in Oxford, Englad. The country music superstar delivered a keynote address for the event titled, “The Journey of a Little Boy From Broken to Beautifully Broken,” which recounted his childhood struggles and incarceration, with Jelly eventually getting his GED at the age of 23 while he was in jail. The speech will also highlight his personal journey to becoming “an advocate for improving foundational literacy within the justice system domestically and internationally, especially among youth offenders, through educational programs and resources.” Despite Jelly’s past struggles with the justice system and limitations on international travel due to a past felony charge, the singer’s perseverance has led to him achieving this unexpected accolade in England, a country he once thought he may never be able to visit due to his criminal past.
