Melba Montgomery, a country singer who was famous for singing memorable duets, has died at the age of 86. Montgomery’s death was confirmed in a Facebook post shared by her daughter, Melissa Solomon Barrett, on Wednesday (January 15). The late singer is best known for her celebrated duets with country legends Gene Pitney, Charlie Louvin, and most famously with George Jones on the 1963 Top 10 country hit single,  “We Must Have Been Out of Our Minds.” As both a solo artist and a duet partner, Montgomery charted 30 hit country singles between 1963 and 1986, with her 1974 song “No Charge” reaching No. 1, even breaking in to the Top 40 of the pop chart. “It is with great sadness that we announce our family has lost our mother, Melba Montgomery Solomon,” wrote Barrett. “She fought a long battle with dementia but is now with her loving husband, Jack Solomon in Heaven.” (People)
