During his first-ever tour of Australia, 10-time Grammy winner Chris Stapleton has declined to participate in the country’s tradition of doing a “shoey” – drinking beer from a shoe – despite its popularity at major performances. While appreciative of his Australian fans, Stapleton remains focused on his music and has questioned the possible penalties for not participating. “I asked somebody before I went on for the first night, ‘Is there anything that I should be prepared for?’” Stapleton said in a recent interview. “And then they’re like, ‘Yes, a shoey. This is a point of passion for me,” he said. Stapleton’s Australian tour continues with back-to-back sold-out performances in Sydney on March 4 and 5, with special guest opener Marcus King.
