Cody Johnson IS an actual cowboy, and while you’d think maybe he’d keep his style to only REAL cowboys, that’s just not the case. He compares it to being a huge Michael Jordan fan. He thinks the increased interest in the genre is what’s most important. He said, “When I was a kid, I had a Michael Jordan jersey and tennis shoes. Michael Jordan’s my favorite athlete of all time . . . I remember watching the McDonald’s commercials and being like, ‘I want to be like Mike.’ “But I’m the worst basketball player in the world, bro . . . Cowboys have a tendency to be like, well, they don’t need a cowboy hat on. He’s not a real cowboy . . .But what’s the difference between that and me wearing my Michael Jordan jersey? When I see other people wearing their hats, I’m like, that means that I’m doing something right.”
Luke Bryan passed on “Sand in My Boots” in a few years back, because he felt like he’d done too many songs about TRUCKS. Hardy co-wrote it, and Morgan Wallen made it a hit in 2021. He said he passed because it had the word “Chevrolet” in it. The actual lyric is “dodging potholes in my sunburnt SILVERADO.” But he’d done a string of songs about trucks and tailgates, and people were calling him a “one-trick pony.” So he wanted to branch out. He doesn’t regret all the songs about trucks and beer though, because it keyed people in to who he is. He said fans “generally think [his] personality is ‘let’s have some fun.'” And he’s cool with being known for that.
Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, and Pitbull were announced as the headliners for the 2025 NCAA March Madness Music Festival. It’s a three-day event in San Antonio, Texas from April 4th to the 6th. Other performers include Brothers Osborne and T-Pain.
Brad Paisley wants to be a mentor on his upcoming Truck Still Works World Tour. He’ll be joined by Walker Hayes, and 3 rising female country acts. He wants to offer guidance to the ladies, like how Alan Jackson did for him. He says, “There was an awkward phase I think in music where everybody was a TikTok star for a second and we are a little bit past that now, where it’s like people have learned there’s some REAL artists . . .”I feel like these [acts] are an example of that.”
Will Smith got a street named after him in West Philadelphia. Because, like the song says, that’s where he was born and raised.
