Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus didn’t share scenes in the 2009 crossover Disney Channel episode “Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana” because there was drama since they both dated Nick Jonas.  They’re all good now, though.

The journey JellyRoyy has been through is impressive. His full circle moment:  Jelly Roll, the ex-convict, is now . . . Jelly Roll, the Deputy Sheriff.  He was sworn in with the Oath of Office by an officer in Michigan named Sheriff Swanson.  He said, “This is the real deal.  You walk into any facility, you can tell them you’re a Deputy Sheriff from Genesee County.” And when Jelly Roll was presented with his badge and official sheriff ID, he said, “From convict to deputy.” Jelly has been working closely with Sheriff Swanson for some time supporting their I.G.N.I.T.E program, which encourages inmates to get their GED while incarcerated.  This helps them possibly find employment upon their release and cuts down the chance of them reoffending. While Jelly was up in Michigan, he also cut the ribbon on the Jelly Roll Music Studio at Genesee County Jail in Flint.  So, in addition to helping the inmates find an education, they’re also providing them with a creative outlet, in the form of the jailhouse music studio.

Monday night’s Toby Keith tribute in Nashville had a lot of highlights . . . but a lowlight would be Tyler Hubbard’s tribute to Toby’s red Solo cups. Tyler took on the song and asked the audience to sing along, but about halfway through he completely blanked on the lyrics. Maybe he just got caught up in the moment, because he stopped the song . . . and re-started the verse, with the correct lyrics.  So it seemed like he knew them, he just got lost and tripped up. Still, even Tyler admitted it needed to be right . . . because, “We can’t do Toby like this.”  Fortunately, Toby probably wouldn’t have cared.  He never took that song seriously, and once called it, “the stupidest song I ever heard.”

“Entertainment Tonight” has a snippet of Miley Cyrus appearing on Dave Letterman’s show “My Next Guest”.  It’s from a while back, but the interview took place before the recent Billy Ray tirade, but since that has been in the news, she revealed some very interesting things about her dad.  Whether her opinion of him has changed since then is unclear. First Miley complimented Billy Ray by saying, “I am thankful for his genes.  He has great hair.  And I got that.”  But then it quickly turned when she said, “I also inherited the narcissism from my father.” When Dave asked her if there was estrangement with her dad, Miley said, “What is so beautiful is that my parents, they served their children.  There is a map of what to do, and what not to do.  And, he’s guided me on both.” That is a profound observation from Miley and a really nice way of putting things when the relationship might be a little strained.

Is Morgan Wallen a Pop artist now?  His song “I Had Some Help” with Post Malone at #1 on the Billboard POP chart.  This is Morgan’s first #1 on the pop chart.  That’s after the song already was #1 on the Country chart last month.  Having a #1 song on the Country AND Pop chart is an incredible feat, only matched one time before in history. And that’s by Taylor Swift.  In November of 2008, “Love Story” was on top of the Country chart, and then in February of 2009 it was on top of the Pop Airplay chart. I’m sure Post Malone helped tip the scales a bit, but this goes to show you what a true cross-over success Morgan Wallen can be.

Four people wrote Jason Aldean’s song “Try That in a Small Town”?  And none of them are Jason. He took most, if not all, of the flak for singing the song.  How did the songwriters feel about the controversy that followed? They declined interviews at the time, but now are coming out of the shadows to start their own podcast, and explain what they went through. One of the writers said, “We were stunned by how people’s sensitivities made them so antagonistic toward something very simple we were trying to convey.” The main critics of the song felt that they shouldn’t have released a song to glorify gun-based vigilante justice so close to the Route 91 mass shooting in Las Vegas. But the writers said they were inspired to write the song because of that.  And they intended to celebrate tight-knit communities where neighbors take care of neighbors, especially in the face of violence. Tully Kennedy is Jason Aldean’s bassist and one of the co-writers of the song.  He was on stage at the Route 91 festival when the shooting started and a bullet lodged into his instrument, and it very well could have saved his life.

70 year old Kathie Lee Gifford was hospitalized after suffering a traumatic fall that fractured her pelvis in two places after tripping and falling while rushing to meet one of her friends who came to pick her up from her house. After recently undergoing hip replacement surgery, she shared that she “weakened [her] body” prior to the accident by moving “300 books by myself” during her recent book signing in Nashville.
