Do you remember the hit single “Come Back Song” by Darius Rucker? It was #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart for two weeks in 2010 and certified platinum with over one million units sold. Well Darius almost didn’t even record this song, because the demo was recorded by a famously below-average singer named Chris Stapleton. Darius’ producer Frank Rogers asked him about it in the studio, “Why don’t you want to record the song? I think it’s a hit.” To which Darius replied, “Man, have you heard the demo?! I could never sing it like that! He kills that song. I could never open my mouth and sing it like that, because it’s too great.” The good news, for Darius, is that in the end he did decide to record it and it became the smash hit off of his second country album titled, “Charleston, SC 1996”. “Comeback Song” was co-written by Darius, Chris Beathard, and Chris Stapleton. But, who do you think sings it better?
The YouTube channel “There I Ruined It” did a song called “What bro country sounds like to people who don’t like bro country.” In 90 seconds, it name-checks trucks 17 times, and beer 18 times. 100% of the lyrics are bro country clichés.They used a Luke Bryan A.I. to get the voice just right.
George Strait trolled his fans when they kept asking him why he didn’t have a Texas stop in his latest tour. Instead of answering them directly, he poked fun at their misery a bit. But it was all in good fun, because yesterday George announced that he will have a tour stop in Texas after all. He’ll be the first person to perform at Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field. It goes down June 15th, and he’ll be joined by Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman.
Onstage at the CMC Rocks Festival in Queensland, Megan Moroney took part in an Australian tradition . . . by doing her very first SHOEY. She did it out of a fan’s boot, and while she took kind of a hesitant sip at first, she downed it on her second slug. And at Lainey Wilson’s tour stop in Australia, she took up the challenge as well. She said, “I cannot believe I am drinking beer out of a boot. But I’m dang excited about it.” And then before she chugged, Lainey yelled out, “Holler and Swaller!”
