A list of 10 country stars who were totally underrated at first . . .
1. Luke Combs. Nobody would sign him, and “The Voice” even rejected him because he, quote, “wasn’t interesting enough.” He never made it on the show.
2. Jelly Roll. No one in country sounded like him, or looked like him.
3. Walker Hayes. He moved to Nashville in 2005 and toiled away for a decade before making it big.
4. Chris Stapleton. He was known in the industry as a great songwriter. But it was another 15 years before he really went mainstream.
5. Taylor Swift. It was obvious she had talent early on. But no one expected her to be the biggest star in the world.
6. Oliver Anthony. The most obvious one on the list. A former factory worker who recorded “Rich Men North of Richmond” in a field and ended up with the top song in the country.
7. Gabby Barrett. She finished third on season 16 of “American Idol”, but might be the most successful third place finisher ever.
8. Kellie Pickler. She finished sixth on “Idol” in 2006. That’s the year Taylor Hicks won.
9. Kane Brown. He got famous posting covers on Facebook, and nobody took him seriously. His first two singles flopped, but then he had five straight #1 hits.
10. Billy Ray Cyrus. “Achy Breaky Heart” was huge when it came out in 1990, but got slammed by critics. So people thought he was a one-hit wonder. But he’s still relevant 33 years later. He helped Lil Nas X break out with “Old Town Road” in 2019.
Brett Young brings his two little daughters on stage once in a while, and there’s a good chance they’ll even steal the show. It’s cute, but like most showbiz parents, he hopes they DON’T fall in love with performing. He doesn’t want them to follow in his footsteps because the job is much harder than it looks. He says it’s a grind, and is really tough on families. But . . . if they’re driven to it, then he’ll give his blessing. Quote, “If they’re absolutely in love with music and it’s the only thing that could absolutely make them happy, I will 100% support it. But if they have ten things that they like and music is just one of them, I’m going to support the other nine.”
LoCash is criticizing everyone for giving Zach Bryan a PASS . . . despite disrespecting the police, and trying to play the fame card. In a social media post, they said, “Funny how a country artist gets arrested for being a complete [jerk] to the police, and then gets praise and press for apologizing, [even] from the police. But when you do shows for the Blue . . . you get no recognition from press. #CrazyWorld.”Some commenters responded by pointing out that Zach is getting more press because he’s all over the charts now, and it’s been years since LoCash has had a hit. LoCash is talking about a statement from the National Police Association, which said, “people say and do stupid things”. . . but praised Zach for his quick, “sincere, heartfelt” apology.
Ashley McBryde invited a young fan on stage during a recent show and she’s impressed fans by asking the fan’s mother for permission and using American Sign Language. She also invited the fan to come backstage after the show for a private meet and greet. Ashley said she’s been learning sign language, so she naturally used it on stage even though the fan is from a “hearing” family. She also shared what she’s learned and taught the fan some kid-friendly basic things to say.
