Let’s be honest: This is NOT an era of “peak language.” Everyone is constantly looking for ways to write, read, and speak LESS . . . and with fewer actual words. There’s very little “writing.” We’re really only texting and DMing, and those messages are a mix of short abbreviations, slang, and emojis that can look like you’re trying to solve a puzzle from “Classic Concentration”. In a survey of American texters between the ages of 18 to 65, 90% say they regularly use abbreviations in their daily messages. And 84% think that those shortcuts are a GOOD thing, and have a positive effect when received. But according to a new study, it can feel like a brush-off if messages are TOO SHORT . . . because it seems like the texter didn’t put any effort into writing the message. They’re talking about stuff like “plz,” “sry,” “ty,” or “idk” . . . for “please,” “sorry,” “thank you,” or “I don’t know.” And if the message isn’t understood right away, it can be confusing and “disengaging.” That’s true for anyone: Strangers, family, friends on social media, and new connections on dating apps. The researchers say this doesn’t mean you should stop using common abbreviations like “lol.” But taking more time can make your messages feel more sincere, and express that you value the person on the other end. Even if it’s just SPELLING OUT WORDS.
Kanye West is back dumping on Taylor Swift. Taylor actually sent him a cease-and-desist letter after he said she had sex with Justin Bieber and Harry Styles. But that might not be the end of it. Travis Kelce is OUTRAGED, and wants to have it out with Kanye man-to-man. “There must be consequences. West would never dare say this to [Taylor’s] face.
You know you’ve made it when you have your very own PUB in your backyard. Take Ed Sheeran, for example. On the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, he shared that he bought an old pub on eBay and transferred it to a barn in his backyard. He modeled it after one that he liked to go to as a teenager. (The drinking age in the U.K. is 18, FYI.) Ed says the old pub has a, quote, “counter, and there’s a tunnel to it, and in the tunnel, I built a listening room, and there’s a cinema, and that’s kind of my, less of a man cave and more of a man catacombs.” He also displays his collection of movie props there and joked that it’s where he throws ragers. It’s called Lancaster Lock, which is a combination of his mom’s maiden name and his wife’s mom’s maiden name.
Jelly Roll recently announced that he’s down almost 200 pounds. He was asked about his weight-loss journey. Here’s what Jelly said, “I started at 540 pounds, and I’m 357 pounds this morning, baby.” And then Jelly flexed a little for the crowd and they went wild. It was an awesome moment. Then Jelly said, “I’m gonna lose another 100 pounds and go skydiving with my wife in Sweden.” According to most normal skydiving procedures, the max you can weigh is 250 pounds to jump out of an airplane.
Morgan Wallen’s new album “I’m the Problem” will be released next month on May 16th. But that’s not all Morgan fans have to look forward to. He also announced “The Shop Sessions”, which is a new series on YouTube featuring acoustic versions of tracks from his new album. Morgan said on Instagram, “Found an old auto shop and recorded some songs from my new album with my band. The first one, “Just in Case (The Shop Sessions)” is out now. This idea is not new for Morgan, who also put out “The Dangerous Sessions” from his “Dangerous: The Double Album” . . . and “One Record at a Time Sessions”, which included stripped-down versions of his songs from “One Thing at a Time”.
You’ve probably heard the old wives’ tale that if you swallow a piece of gum it will remain in your digestive tract for seven years. Well, Parker McCollum is taking that science to a whole new level. He recently said in an interview with “CMT” that he has swallowed every piece of gum he’s ever eaten. And even more than that, he seemed proud of it. He said, “One time I swallowed 46 in one sitting. True story. And feel great . . . Doctor says everything is good.” According to the Mayo Clinic, “If you swallow gum, it’s true that your body can’t digest it . . . But the gum doesn’t stay in your stomach. It moves relatively intact through your digestive system and is excreted in your stool.” So, here’s a fun fact you might not have known: Parker McCollum has pooped out more gum than maybe any country singer ever.
