The “Opry 100: A Live Celebration” went down last night on NBC and it was pretty awesome. The 100th anniversary isn’t OFFICIALLY until November, but why not start celebrating now?
Here are some of the best moments from last night:
1. Dierks Bentley and Jamey Johnson were part of an awesome Charlie Daniels Band tribute. They sang “Drinkin’ My Baby Goodbye” and “Devil Went Down to Georgia”.
2. Carrie Underwood performed a Randy Travis tribute. And Randy was in the audience and got to sing the last notes of “Forever and Ever, Amen”.
3. Alan Jackson sang, “Chattahoochee”. The show clocked in at three hours, but this performance alone was worth the price of admission.
4. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood did a pretty cool George Jones tribute.
5. And Blake Shelton did a great job as host.
“SNL” announced Morgan Wallen will be the musical guest next week. They’re on hiatus this week, so that’s Saturday, March 29th. The host is Mikey Madison. It’ll be Morgan’s second time on the show, but they’ve actually booked him THREE times. He was supposed to perform in October 2022, but they cut him for breaking COVID protocols. A video showed him out at a bar in Alabama with no mask on. They had him back that December and he did two songs, “7 Summers” and “Still Goin’ Down” . . . plus a skit about the COVID drama. No word on which songs he’ll do this time. But fans are buzzing because they think he might drop his new ALBUM for it. So the next three episodes of “Saturday Night Live” will feature Mikey Madison with Morgan Wallen, Jack Black with Elton John and Brandi Carlile, and Jon Hamm with Lizzo.
Kane Brown is one of the biggest stars in all of country music. But he recently gave us a glimpse of what it’s like backstage on the High Road Tour, and it was pretty sweet. He also revealed the one thing he couldn’t live without . . . His XBOX. And then the camera pans over to a sweet Xbox setup. Kane says, “I’m not even going to lie, this is the Xbox they just bought for me, because I left my last one in L.A.” And then he closes the video by saying, “So y’all are more than welcome to leave, so I can play.” So now you know . . . if a Kane Brown concert is ever running late, it’s because he’s in the back playing Xbox.
“Variety” magazine has announced its first “Power of Women” event for Nashville, which will honor four female country music stars: Kelsea Ballerini, Mickey Guyton, Reba McEntire, and Lainey Wilson. On top of that, Sheryl Crow is hosting it. And Ashley Judd will be there to promote the documentary, “The Judd Family: Truth Be Told” . . . a four-part series that premieres on Lifetime on May 10th. The Power of Women event will take place on May 1st, and the corresponding issue of “Variety” will be out on April 29th.
Sia has always been keen on keeping her personal life private — so private, that according to a new report, she welcomed her third child almost a year ago. Sia welcomed a baby named Somersault Wonder Bernad with her now-estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, on March 27, 2024. Somersault would be Sia’s third child, after the singer adopted two 18-year-old boys in 2019.
The NCAA men’s basketball tournament started today. But if you’re not that into basketball, have no fear . . . Instead of picking basketball teams, there’s something called the March Man-ness bracket, where you’re picking the hottest country singer. And there’s two brackets. One for old school singers, and one for the new bucks. Here are some of the big matchups in the Old School bracket: Keith Urban vs. Ronnie Dunn . . . Jason Aldean vs. Trace Adkins . . . and maybe the best match of all, Kenny Chesney vs. Alan Jackson. And the best matchups in the New School bracket are: Scotty McCreery vs. Shaboozey . . . and Zach Top vs. Tucker Wetmore. The winner of the Old School and New School brackets will face off in the championship. Who’s gonna take it down?
