Kevin Bacon hates when he’s at a wedding and the DJ plays “Footloose” because, quote, “suddenly the wedding becomes about me, and people form a circle around me and I become a trained monkey.”

The whole country world is still extending their sympathies to Dolly Parton after she lost her husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, last week. On Friday, Dolly dedicated a new song to her late husband called, “If You Hadn’t Been There”. In the caption she wrote, “I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old.  We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together.  Like all great love stories, they never end.  They live on in memory and song.  He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.” Here are some lyrics: If you hadn’t been there, where would I be?  Without your trust, love and belief – The ups and downs we’ve always shared . . . And I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t been there.”

Luke Combs had to defend himself against malicious lies on the Internet this past weekend. A bio of Luke’s was going around, that had the audacity to call him 5-foot-9.  Well, Luke quickly jumped in to put a stop to that. He said, “5-foot-9 is crazy work.  6 foot, 300 pounds of beefcake according to my driver’s license.” So then of course we had to fact-check, because a LOT of men will say they are 6 feet tall, when they are 5-foot-10

Rascal Flatts just announced a new album called, “Life Is a Highway: Refueled Duets” . . . And it’s basically a greatest hits album with an impressive list of guest stars attached. Craig Morgan was asked about re-enlisting in the Army Reserve.  He was 59 when he announced it at the Grand Ole Opry in 2023, and he’ll be 61 this summer. He said he saw that recruitment numbers were down and thought maybe he could help.  So, that was a big part of it. But he’s also always wanted to get his 20-year retirement letter thanking him for his service, and he hadn’t met that threshold yet. His first stint in the Army ran 17-and-a-half years, from 1980 to 1997.  So he’s set to hit the 20-year mark in 2026.

If you remember Carrie Underwood’s run on “American Idol” 21 years ago, you’ll recall that she didn’t initially come across as a country singer. Her earliest song choices were “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt and “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton.  And there’s a reason for that:  She was told that Simon Cowell HATED country music. Carrie says, “One of the executive producers [said], ‘You know, Simon hates country music, right?’ . . . I thought maybe if I sang ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ [for the audition] it would kind of still be me and a song that I knew and loved.” To Simon’s credit, Carrie revealed that she was a country girl during her first audition, and he did encourage her to be herself.

John Goodman suffered a hip injury on the set of the upcoming Tom Cruise movie.
