1. Jelly’s real name is Jason DeFord. His mom gave him his stage name when he was younger because he was “the chubby kid.”
2. He was convicted of robbery as a teenager, and possession with intent to distribute when he was 21. In total, he went to jail 40 times for various offenses.
3. Jelly is a college graduate. He got his GED in jail, and then went on to get his associate degree in sociology from Volunteer State University.
4. He got engaged and married to Bunnie Xo on the SAME NIGHT.
5. Jelly has two older brothers. Their names are Roger and Scott.
6. His musical influences are: Johnny Cash, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Three 6 Mafia.
7. In addition to his country success, he also has a #1 song in rock music too. “Dead Man Walking” was on top of the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2022.

One of the earliest and most influential recordings in country music history came in 1927, when producer Ralph Peer met up with Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family to put out “The Bristol Sessions”. Now another recording has now been found that pre-dates “The Bristol Sessions” by over 30 YEARS. And it might just be the earliest country music recording ever made. It dates back to 1891, and is sung by Louis Vasnier from New Orleans. The song is called, “Thompson’s Old Gray Mule”.
