Lady Gaga says her fiancé asked if he could propose before he proposed. She also says she doesn’t know if the wedding will be just the two of them at a courthouse or, quote, “a circus with unicorns.”
Jelly Roll was the musical guest this past weekend on “Saturday Night Live” . . . and he did film a skit, but it was cut for time. It happens a lot, since it’s a live show, but it’s unfortunate his scene was the one that got cut. But thankfully “SNL” posted it to their YouTube channel. The skit was about some friends that were sitting down watching the second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel, but instead, it was called “Blonde Dragon People”. Towards the end of the skit Andy Samberg and Jelly Roll showed up as “Lord of the Rings” characters, but then quickly realized they were in the wrong show. It’s a really funny skit, but it runs over six minutes, so it makes sense why they had to cut it.
In an interview, Brooks and Dunn were asked them if they ever got any advice from other duos in the Country Music industry. And Ronnie Dunn was quick to answer with an emphatic, “No.” He then said, “As friendly as they say the world of Country music is, it’s so darn competitive . . . Everybody hates one another. They act like they don’t on TV.” All Kix Brooks could do was sit back and laugh. Then Theo asked, “You think people are really competitive, then?” And Ronnie said, “Oh heck yeah. Then Ronnie shared another great tidbit. He said, “One of my favorite things is Dolly Parton in an interview years and years ago, she said, ‘Oh, honey. There’s room for everybody.’ No there’s not. You wanna get down to it. No there’s not.” So I guess Ronnie is telling it like it is.
Merle Haggard once set the Guinness World Record for buying the largest round of drinks? He bought 5,095 C.C. waterbacks for the crowd at Billy Bob’s honky-tonk in Texas back in 1982. A C.C. waterback is a shot of Canadian Club whiskey with some water to chase it down. He did this in honor of his 28th hit song, “C.C. Waterback” . . . and his tab was $12,737.50. Which in today’s money is over $40,000. His record stood for an impressive 34 more years, until 2016, when it was broken at a brewery in England celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday. They bought a round of 412 beers, which was over 42 gallons. Merle’s round of shots was around 40 gallons, so he got beat out.
Luke Combs is #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart . . . again . . . most recently with “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma”. Overall, he’s now spent 53 weeks on top, which is the equivalent of more than a year. Kenny Chesney has the most #1 weeks on that chart, with 83, dating back to the chart’s launch about 25 years ago. Tim McGraw has the second-most (80), followed by George Strait (66) . . . Alan Jackson (60) . . . Blake Shelton (57) . . . and Toby Keith, who’s tied with Luke now with 53.
Beyoncé fans got upset last month when “Cowboy Carter” didn’t get any CMA nods. Luke Bryan was asked why HE thinks she got snubbed, and what she’d have to do to get nominated. Luke said “everyone LOVED” the fact that she made a Country album, and no one’s mad about it. The CMA’s voting body might just lean toward artists who make themselves part of the Country COMMUNITY a little more. “Come into our world and be country with us a little bit . . . Come to an awards show and high-five us, and have fun, and get in the family.” He added it’s also just a crapshoot. A lot of great music gets overlooked, and he’s been snubbed too.
One of the doctors charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s ketamine death is one step closer to prison … because he just copped to a crime. Dr. Mark Chavez, one of 2 physicians busted in the Perry case, appeared before a judge in federal court Wednesday in Los Angeles and pled guilty. Chavez quickly cut a deal with the feds after a slew of arrests were made in connection with Perry’s death. Now, he’s formally entered his plea and is facing up to 10 years in prison, but his sentencing won’t happen until next April. In the meantime, he remains free on a $50,000 bond … and he’s already surrendered his passport, and agreed not to work as a doctor.
