Morgan Wallen had his day in court this past Friday, but was allowed to skip it. His attorney was there in his stead. No plea was entered, and the case was set for another hearing on August 15th. Morgan’s lawyer said, “Morgan will be here on August 15th, and several things can happen in the case. We might have a hearing, we might settle the case, or the case might continue.” So pretty much every option, cool. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in August. His lawyer also dropped this gem, “[Morgan] has done what I think we would expect any good person to do when there’s something such as this happens.” And I guess that means performing three sold-out shows at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville the same weekend of his court appearance. Just like “any good person would do.” Here are more Morgan updates:
1. Chief’s, which is the site of Morgan’s infamous chair-throw, put a sign up on their roof warning people not to do what Morgan did. The sign says, “Don’t even think about it, you are not Morgan Wallen.”
2. A security guard stole the show during Morgan’s Nashville tour stop.
3. Morgan Wallen announced that his new bar will be opening in Nashville on Memorial Day weekend. It’s called “Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen”.
Zach Bryan brought a surprise guest onstage during his show at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis the other night, but this one was a little out of left field. During “Revival”, rapper Sexyy Red came out onstage to pop some booty. St. Louis IS her hometown, though . . . so it wasn’t TOO unbelievable. Zach’s guests at previous shows have included Bruce Springsteenand Kacey Musgraves
Wynonna Judd performed the National Anthem at the Kentucky Derby Saturday. It was a full circle moment because she grew up going to the race track in Kentucky. She says it was the honor of a lifetime and, quote, “My Papaw would be SO proud!”
It’s a little harder to hate on A.I. than it was a week ago . . .Randy Travis’s first song in over a decade came out on Friday. It’s called “Where That Came From”, and people had been speculating it “came from” A.I. Now it’s been confirmed that’s the case, and it’s pretty amazing. “CBS Sunday Morning” sat down with him yesterday and did a big segment on how A.I. is letting him continue his career in music. Randy’s had trouble talking and singing ever since his near-fatal stroke in 2013. So with his blessing, his longtime producer helped train an A.I. to copy his voice using stripped-down vocals from 42 old tracks. That’s really just half of it though. Any new lyrics also need to be sung first. So they also enlisted James Dupré. (doo-PRAY) James was on “The Voice” in 2015 and has his own music career. But he grew up listening to Randy, and he’s been touring with him as a guest vocalist. He sings the songs while Randy interacts with fans. James sang the new song. Then it got filtered through the A.I. to make it sound even more like Randy’s voice. And it REALLY does. Randy’s wife was there the first time they heard it, and she got pretty emotional. She said she forgot how much she missed it until she heard it again. Cole Swindell is a big fan, and he teared up too. The best part is this isn’t just a one-off. Randy and James are already working on more music.
Naomi Scott is 31. Jasmine in the live-action “Aladdin” remake. Your kids know her as Kimberly, the Pink Ranger in the “Power Rangers” movie. Sci-fi fans might also remember her as the daughter on “Terra Nova”.
George Clooney is 63.
Roma Downey is 64. “Touched by an Angel” star who played the mother of Jesus in “The Bible” and “Son of God”. She’s married to “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett. They also produced “A.D. The Bible Continues” together.
Tom Bergeron is 69. Former “Dancing with the Stars” host.
Tony Blair is 71. England’s prime minister for most of the George W. Bush years.
Bob Seger is 79. Motor City Caucasian King long before Tud Nugent, Kid Rock or Eminem. Biggest hits: “Hollywood Nights”, “Against the Wind”, “We’ve Got Tonite”, and “Old Time Rock and Roll”, the song Tom Cruise danced to in “Risky Business”.
Willie Mays is 93. Baseball Hall of Famer.
