Happy 91st Birthday to Willie Nelson! His birthday is today . . . and tomorrow. Yes, that’s right, Willie’s so cool he has TWO birthdays instead of one. And now you can wow your friends with this great Willie trivia. Willie was born in Abbott, Texas on April 29th, 1933 but very late at night. He said, “I was born before midnight on the 29th but it didn’t get registered in the county courthouse, until the next day. So, it went out officially as the 30th. So, I just do both days.” And who more deserving of two birthdays than the living legend Willie Nelson? He celebrates twice as hard as anyone of us, so it makes sense. Here are five more amazing Willie stories:
1. The name of his 16th album is called “Shotgun Willie”. He got that nickname because he got in a gun fight with his crazy son-in-law who was abusing his daughter.
2. Willie once got high on the roof of the White House with President Carter’s son Chip. He concealed Chip’s identity in his autobiography, because he didn’t want to get him in trouble. But President Carter later confirmed it.
3. In 1993, Willie Nelson owed the I.R.S. 32 million bucks. After asset seizures it was down to 16.7 million and he eventually settled for 9 million. To help pay for this, he appeared in a Taco Bell commercial and sang a song about the steak burrito supreme.
4. Willie got caught cheating by his second wife Shirley after she found a bill from the maternity ward of a local hospital. The charges were for the birth of a baby girl, born to a Mrs. Connie Nelson. Connie would be his third wife.
5. Tom Brady once asked Snoop Dogg what was the most stoned he’d ever been in his whole life. And without hesitation Snoop said, “With Willie [effing] Nelson.”
Stagecoach went down this weekend and there were some really great moments, and a bit of controversy as well. Here are the highlights:
1. The biggest storyline of the weekend was Eric Church’s performance. He did a stripped-down acoustic set of gospel covers with a full choir. Problem was, he was headlining, so his set started at 10:00 P.M. on Friday night. A lot of people were pretty angry and wondering why he ruined the party vibe. One guy even called it, quote, “career suicide.” As for Eric, he said, “This was the most difficult set I have ever attempted.”
2. One of the highlights of the weekend was Post Malone’s set of country covers. He did a great job, and brought out an all-star guest list. He was joined by Dwight Yoakam, Sara Evans, and Brad Paisley. Posty and Brad sang “I’m Gonna Miss Her” and then belted out Vince Gill’s “One More Last Chance”. On the final song of the set, Brad came back out to play guitar while Posty killed it with Alan Jackson’s classic “Chattahoochee”.
3. Miranda Lambert brought out Reba McEntire for her finale and the crowd loved it. They sang “Mama’s Broken Heart”, “Fancy”, and “Gunpowder & Lead”.
4. Jelly Roll and T-Pain honored Toby Keith with a cover of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”.
5. And if you were excited to livestream Morgan Wallen’s headlining set last night, you ended the night pretty bummed. Amazon streamed every other Stagecoach headliner, except for Morgan.
How’s this for a coincidence? Two babies named “Johnny Cash” and “June Carter” were born at the same hospital on the SAME DAY this month. It happened April 10th in Huntsville, Alabama. June Carter Clark was born at 2:30 P.M., weighing in at 6 pounds 12 ounces. Then Johnny Cash Davis arrived at 9:50 P.M., weighing in at 7 pounds 2 ounces. Both sets of parents are fans and couldn’t believe it when they found out. Baby June’s dad is named Carter, so it was also a nod to him. Meanwhile, Baby Johnny’s dad is a Johnny, so they’re planning to call him “Cash”. They say they want to stay in touch. So people online are hoping to check back in 20 years to see if Johnny and June couple up. The original Johnny and June were married over 35 years before she passed in May 2003. Johnny died less than four months later that September.
Tornadoes have been causing damage to the midwest since Friday. One of the first cities to get hit was Omaha, Nebraska. Zach Bryan made a statement in support of the victims, since he used to live there. He says, “I want to offer some honest prayers and hopes to the communities affected . . . The band and I are standing with you guys as we are playing some shows in Omaha . . . we love you so much and we’ll do all we can to help.”
Here’s more confirmation that Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are back on. They were slow dancing to Jelly Roll at Stagecoach.
