Patrick Mahomes has turned down hosting “Saturday Night Live” because he has a fear of teleprompters.
Jelly Roll is using his time and money for GOOD. He just built a music studio inside the Davidson County Juvenile Jail, a place where he spent a lot of time growing up. He teamed up with a non-profit called “Beat for Life” that “aims to create songwriting and music programs for vulnerable populations across the country.” Also in attendance was the Mayor of Nashville, plus 35 hit songwriters. Jelly said, “I never would’ve dreamed when I was sitting right there that I would one day come back and introduce the studio and all these songwriters would come out to support the cause and the Mayor would introduce me.” This got a huge laugh, then he said, “I would never guess this. It wasn’t in my bingo card in life. When I was in juvenile, we never got a visitor. We never had a mentor . . . nobody ever came to see us.” He also performed for the incarcerated kids, who then got to sit down with songwriters and write their own songs. And then if they wanted, they had the opportunity to showcase them to the whole room.
Kellie Pickler took the stage on Monday night for the first time since her husband, Kyle Jacobs, committed suicide last year. They got married in 2011. He was a singer/songwriter as well, and they starred together in the CMT show called “I Love Kellie Pickler”. Kellie came back to the Ryman auditorium to perform on Monday night in an all-star tribute to Patsy Cline. When they announced Kellie’s name, she got a standing ovation. Kellie said, “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was not incredibly nervous right now. It’s been the first time I’ve been up on stage in a while. I will say that I am incredibly honored to be a part of honoring Ms. Patsy Cline. She’s a huge reason why I fell in love with music.” She then went on to perform her song “The Woman I Am”, which pays tribute to Patsy. But before she began, she said, “My husband and I actually wrote this song together, over a decade ago. The last time I was here at the Ryman was with him on a date night. And I know he is here with us tonight.”
Lainey Wilson was asked about her steamy kissing scene on season five of “Yellowstone” . . . and specifically what boyfriend Duck Hodges thought of it. Sounds like he didn’t enjoy it. But he gets it. She joked that he “ain’t gonna like [her] smacking up on nobody,” but he knows she’s worked hard for opportunities. “At the end of the day, I love you and you love me . . . you do what you gotta do.” He knew it was “just work.” She was also asked about the final upcoming episodes of the show. All she said was she keeps telling creator Taylor Sheridan, “You better put me back in.”
Being a stepdad to Gwen Stefani’s kids has changed Blake Shelton . . . for the better. “When people say it’s not about you anymore when you have a kid . . . I think if you’re doing it right, it’s not about you anymore.” And he’s having a positive impact on their lives, too. “I get to teach them the country, you know, and I love that. “Whether it’s music, whether it’s literally getting out, getting their hands in the dirt or being out on the ranch, seeing the animals, whatever, you know? I absolutely love being the person that gets to introduce them to that stuff.”
