Maren Morris says she’s walking away from country music. Or at least parts of it she thinks are toxic. She put out two new songs on Friday that allude to it. One called “The Tree”, and another called “Get the Hell Out of Here”. They both still have country elements though, so she hasn’t gone totally pop yet. She just did a big interview and said songs like “Try That in a Small Town” have turned her off of country. “People are streaming these songs out of spite. It’s not out of true joy or love of the music.” She said she thinks there’s a new “hyper-masculine branch of country” that’s attracted people who are sexist, racist, homophobic, and proud of it. She said she’s had moments where she wanted to, “burn [country music] to the ground and start over.” But now she thinks it’s “burning itself down.” To anyone who doesn’t like her ripping on country, her response is, “Anything this popular should be scrutinized if we want to see progress.”

For what it’s worth, she sent the message some THREE MONTHS after she filed for divorce from Morgan Evans. That said, when Kelsea announced the divorce, a source said the marriage had been rocky for several years.

He says his band is a “family” that “lives” the music, and because of that, every moment of the experience is authentic. “I want to make sure what’s happening in front of the stage is happening behind the stage.”
Hailey Whitters won Best New Female Artist at the ACMs in May, and she’s up for New Artist of the Year at the CMAs in November. Those are bragging rights. But she says the highlight of her year was opening for Shania Twain. “She’s the one who planted the seed. I have video footage of me in my underwear belting out ‘Any Man of Mine’, probably seven years old. It was surreal to open shows for the one who set me on this path in the first place.”
Alan Jackson celebrated what would’ve been Hank Williams’ 100th birthday yesterday with an acoustic cover of “Your Cheatin’ Heart”. He says, “I don’t think I’d be here without you.” Hank passed away at the young age of 29 back in 1953.
