Jelly Roll’s big night at the CMTs caused a huge bump in sales and streaming. His song “Son of a Sinner”, which peaked at #31 last October, notched 950,000 official on-demand U.S. streams on Monday, the day after the show. It also received a 740% sales gain over the previous two days. His performance of “Need a Favor” was huge. It caused a 49% rise in streams on Monday, with an 848% sales bump on Sunday and Monday. All this will help the sales of his new album “Whitsitt Chapel”, which drops June 2nd. This is ALSO good timing for Brantley Gilbert . . . who recently confirmed that he and Jelly Roll are releasing an EP together. No word when it’ll be out.
At the “CMT Music Awards” over the weekend, Darius Rucker was asked about going country in 2008, and why he did it. Basically, he’d been talking about it for years, and then Hootie & the Blowfish broke up. “We had a meeting and [said] we weren’t going to tour anymore. So I knew it was time for me to go to Nashville and see if I could do it.” He says there were lots of haters at first. But he was just glad someone was paying him to make a record and hoped he could keep it up. His first single “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” did well though, and the rest is history. Hootie eventually reunited in 2018, and they still play shows occasionally. They’re actually headlining an event later this month in Cancún, called “HootieFest”. The Gin Blossoms, Goo Goo Dolls, Barenaked Ladies, and Collective Soul also signed on
Lots of country stars were at the Broadway premiere of the new musical “Shucked” on Tuesday. The play has a strong Nashville connection. Kelsea Ballerini was with her new guy, actor Chase Stokes. Kacey Musgraves and her boyfriend Cole Schafer were there . . . and so was Walker Hayes and his wife Laney. Little Big Town’s happy couple Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook attended, as did Carly Pearce and her boyfriend Riley King. The music and lyrics for “Shucked” were composed by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. They’re written TONS of country hits on their own, or together.
Midland is partnering with a cruise company to launch a voyage they’re calling “The Last Resort Cruise.” It sets sail next April . . . and Midland will headline it, of course. They also promise that there will be an “insane amount” of tequila onboard . . . surely some of their own brand, Insólito.
John Osborne from Brothers Osborne welcomed twins Arthur and Maybelle a few weeks ago. His wife Lucie Silvas posted the first photos of the babies in their arms. She said they’ve been in the NICU and should be coming home soon.
People are loving a video of a little kid in his living room singing along to Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”. He’s wearing shorts and cowboy boots, and he’s more performer than singer . . . and that’s probably the charm. It doesn’t hurt that his dad is nearby rockin’ an awesome mullet.
