Kenny Chesney Tapped As Executive Producer for SEC’s “More Than A Voice”

It’s finally fall, meaning college football is back, and we all know how intertwined it is with country music! There are many superstars that have proudly shared their love of football, and their SEC affiliations, throughout their careers – including Kenny Chesney

It’s just been announced that the Knoxville native is teaming up with the Southeastern Conference and ESPN to executive produce a new 90-minute film called More Than A Voice – telling the stories of iconic football play-by-play announcers from the SEC.

The SEC became an institutional custom in the South long before TV sets were household commodities, so play-by-play radio announcers were the only way fans could be a part of the game if they weren’t there in person, and these voices became an integral part of the identity of each team.

The film will highlight announcers such as Tennessee’s John Ward, Alabama’s John Forney and Eli Gold, Florida’s Mick Hubert, Georgia’s Larry Munson, and more. The film will be produced by Don Lepore and directed by Shaun Silva.

When asked about being involved with the film, Kenny shared, “It was important for me to be a part of this film, because John Ward was such a big part of my life growing up and loving sports in east Tennessee. With his voice and his words, he painted a picture of Tennessee football that captured my imagination and the imaginations of so many. Meeting him was one of the highlights of my life – and I’m thrilled to be a small part of this film that sheds light on his genius and so many of the other voices who have made the Southeastern Conference really special.”

More Than A Voice will debut Sunday September 26 at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
