Jennifer Nettles Sends Out Positive Energy in New Video for “Hey Heartbreak”

While Jennifer Nettles has been busy enjoying—or should we say working through—the Christmas season by releasing her first solo Christmas album, To Celebrate Christmas, hosting the CMA Country Christmas special and starring in Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors TV movie, she found some time to shoot and release a new video for her current single, “Hey Heartbreak.”

The video, directed by Shane Drake, shows Jennifer heading to the sunny shores of California to help heal herself after a heartbreak. While you may associate heartbreak with a melancholy video, Jennifer and Shane take a different approach by depicting a woman reflecting and enjoying herself while moving past the hurt to find her happy again.

“Who can’t relate to a good breakup song?” said Jennifer. “The fun part is that there are all kinds of breakup songs. You could be Adele and you could be heartbroken and down. Or you could be ‘Hey Heartbreak’ that is super fun and triumphant and almost like an anthem for freedom. You’re really moving past the sadness and healing.”

Jennifer also shared behind-the-scenes footage from the California shoot location.

“The whole idea here is that she is letting go of a heartbreak,” said Shane Drake, the video’s director, about the concept. “She’s letting go of all the stuff that make you feel down – makes you feel constricted. We decided to take positive approach towards ourselves where Jennifer can have Santa Barbara to recharge and re-energize.”
